How big, how small, how far...?
all you need to know about KLM's fleet
KLM is investing in the future, and is in the process of renewing its intercontinental fleet. In 2003, KLM began replacing its Boeing 747-300s, MD-11s, and Boeing 767-300 ERs with a combination of Boeing 747-400 ER freighters, 777-200 ERs and Airbus A330-200s. The program will be completed around 2010.
These new aircraft offer passengers more comfort and personal choice. The onboard design and products are modern, featuring state-of-the-art technology. Owing to the greater range of these new fleet, direct services can now be operated to various popular destinations.
By reducing the number of aircraft types in the intercontinental fleet from four to three, KLM can improve operational and maintenance efficiency. The new fleet also allows KLM to structurally reduce its costs. In addition, the new aircraft produce less noise and consume less fuel, which is, of course, better for the environment.
KLM has replaced its Boeing 747-300 freighters with Boeing 747-400 ER freighters. The first Boeing 777-200 ER was delivered in October 2003. Seven aircraft of this type have now been delivered. They are being deployed on around ten intercontinental routes, serving destinations in nine countries on four continents (e.g. Cape Town, New York and Tokyo). Airbus delivered the first KLM A330-200 in August 2005. KLM has ordered a total of eight A330-200's from Airbus. The A330 is a smaller aircraft type offering greater reach for an increasing number of point-to-point flights and therefore raising frequencies. This fleet renewal program will enable KLM to strengthen its position in relation to its competitors.

Seating plans
KLM offers a wide variety of aircraft in various cabin configurations. In
general, KLM aircraft are deployed according to passenger supply and
demand per market, and according to aircraft availability. These factors
may vary per season, per day and, for some destinations, during the day.
